On July 27, 2017, Pennlive/Patriot-News published an article by Jan Murphy about the Senate’s passage of HB178 (the School Code) which contains a provision to end the practice of LIFO in schools. The article cited PennCAN’s Executive Director:

Jonathan Cetel, executive director of PennCAN, which has been promoting this education reform, was disappointed the school code bill included no charter school reform but was happy to see the elimination of seniority-based teacher layoffs in it.

“We are encouraged by the inclusion of this important initiative to ensure the best teachers remain in classrooms across the commonwealth,” Cetel said.
