On October 12, 2016, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette published an article by Molly Born regarding the renewal of Pittsburgh charter schools. The article cited PennCAN’s Deputy Director:

Rachel Amankulor, deputy director of policy at PennCAN — the Pennsylvania Campaign for Achievement Now — which is part of a national network that advocates for high-performing charter and other public schools, called the board’s decision an “irresponsible” one that “resulted in needless litigation and diverted precious time and taxpayer resources away from its core mission of improving the quality of education in Pittsburgh Public Schools.”

“The board’s actions reflect its hostility toward charter schools and its willingness to ignore the law,” she said. “This issue is not about charters versus district, but about good governance versus bad governance.”
